About this deal

The world building felt so meaningless because Aster retconned things that were in Lightlark that didn’t make sense.

and her relationship with him, the things that isla does, her relationship with grandpa (who has the power of sun and growth and lives in a castle and has blonde hair… remind you of anyone? It's obviously supposed to be a big deal but the symbolism doesn't have any root to an idea or an emotion.lore concerning the realms is so silly, it's as if she heard that people were critical of how poorly thought out the curses were and then wildly overcorrected. It's meant to be a little silly, but I really don't get the point in bringing it up or saying it aloud when the book doesn't attempt to interface with the actual politics of war or democracy or monarchies in any meaningful way. seductive haunts instead of embracing her duties as the newly crowned leader of two separate realms.

Now, in the wake of a crushing betrayal, Isla finds herself hungry for distraction, preferring to frequent Lightlark? it was “isla went and did this,” “isla went over here and did that,” “isla is in love with him,” over and over and over except I DON’T CARE. A lot of people seemed to think the first book was Like That just because it was a pet project she’d had since being a teen, and that writing another might force her to have original thoughts.
